This is the second report apparently linking Chinese drywall issues to increased levels of bacteria. The premise is that this bacteria produces the sulfur that has been linked to the corrosive issues in affected homes.
The first of these reports was released by a company that was also advocating the use of their service -- a remediation process that was based on treating this bacteria. Without elaborating, the conflict of interest draws into question the credibility of that report. At the same time this first report was released, the CPSC released findings that there was no consistently elevated levels of bacteria in Chinese drywall. Obviously the least biased of the groups involved in the investigation into Chinese drywall, I tend to rely on the CPSC's investigation as the basis for evaluating the other science involved. Considering that the government has spent more then $3.5 million on this investigation, far more than any other group, relying on this science makes the most sense.
